Nick Herbert attends charity concert to support injured soldiers
Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert was at West Chiltington Village Hall on Sunday (21 March) for a charity concert to raise money for the men and women injured in conflict.
The concert, attended by around 140 people, raised £1,325 for the Help for Heroes charity which supports troops wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Founded in October 2007 by Bryn and Emma Parry following a visit to Birmingham's Selly Oak Hospital, Help for Heroes has already raised more than £30 million.
Organiser Rosemary Gray commented: "We greatly appreciated Nick's presence at Sunday afternoon's concert in aid of Help for Heroes, the charity which so wonderfully supports our wounded troops, and for his support in promoting the event in his column in last week's County Times which may well have prompted additional ticket sales at the door.
"About 140 people enjoyed an afternoon of musical entertainment by "Ain't Misbehavin", a group of seven singers with their leader, Joe Ward, playing the piano. Songs ranged from Bizet's "Carmen" to Les Miserables, with a sprinkling of Cole Porter and Lloyd Webber numbers, amongst others. On many occasions the audience could not refrain from joining in the singing!"
Mrs Gray thanked local residents for supporting the event and those people who, despite being unable to attend, sent donations.
Nick Herbert commented: "I really enjoyed the concert on Sunday and I congratulate the organisers for putting on such a wonderful event in West Chiltington.
"The main purpose of the concert was to raise money for our injured troops and it was great to support a charity that is giving them such fantastic support. It's so important that they get the direct and practical help they need when they return home. It's the very least we can do when you consider the sacrifices they have made on our behalf."
The concert was sponsored by Guy Leonard & Co Estate Agents and cadets from 2464 (Storrington) Squadron, Air Training Corps were on hand to ensure that the event ran smoothly under the direction of their commanding officer, Graham Pike.
