The lunch club is run by a team of volunteers from the Pulborough and District Community Care Association (PDCCA).  The MP was welcomed to the lunch by the club’s organiser Ann Kaiser.

The club meets every Wednesday in the Arun room in the village hall which overlooks the Pulborough Brooks.  It provides a regular meeting place and a hot lunch for people from the villages of Pulborough, West Chiltington and Nutbourne.

The Pulborough Community Minibus offers transport to the lunch club to ensure that those who are less independent do not miss out on the weekly gathering.

Mr Herbert chatted with many of the lunch guests before meeting the dedicated volunteers who prepare and serve the lunches.

Ann Kaiser was delighted to show the MP the new industrial dishwasher that was purchased with funds from the Members’ Big Society Fund at West Sussex County Council.  Councillor Pat Arculus backed the project which gave £6,000 to the PDCCA.

Nick Herbert said: “I enjoyed a delicious lunch and good conversation with the lunch guests who told me how much they value the weekly get together.

"The lunch club is an asset for the local community, providing not just a meal but an opportunity to socialise which is so important to those who are on their own, or less able to get out regularly.  The wonderful team of volunteers do a tremendous job in hosting the lunch club each week.”
