MP meets charity founder Tyler Murphy

Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert met Barnham teenager Tyler Murphy on Friday (9 September) to hear about the latest activities at Tyler’s Trust, the charity Tyler started in 2014.

The MP is a Patron for the local charity which raises funds to help seriously ill children by gifting them with boxes of toys when they are undergoing long hospital treatments.

Tyler was presented with an award by Mr Herbert at a ceremony in the House of Commons last year.  The Kids Count Inspiration Awards recognised Tyler’s achievements in running his own charity when he has been through so much himself.

Tyler has had a long battle with a brain tumour and has recently had to return to hospital for further treatment.  Despite a setback which at one point saw him admitted to intensive care, Tyler was keen to meet Mr Herbert to tell him what the charity has planned over the next few months.

Local fundraising has enabled the Trust to host their first Family Fun Day which is taking place on Sunday (18 September).  The event is taking place in Barnham and will provide entertainment, food and activities for the children and families supported by the Trust.

The next local fundraising event is a sponsored dog walk around the grounds of the Weald Downland Open Air Museum on Sunday 2 October between 10am and 4pm.  Entry to the ‘Strutt Your Mutt’ event costs less than the price of admission to the Museum, and all money will go to the Trust so that they can continue to make  giftboxes to give to sick children in local hospitals.

Nick Herbert said:"It was really good to see Tyler again and to hear about his charity’s plans.  I hope that lots of people will attend the sponsored dog walk, because the money raised will mean a lot for the children who receive Tyler’s gift boxes.

The MP added: “Despite his condition, Tyler wanted to delay his treatment so that he can attend his Family Fun Day.  I am proud to be a Patron of his charity and to support Tyler’s great work.”
