Nick Herbert opens extension to local day nursery

Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert opened a new extension to the Little Foxes Day Nursery in Steyning on Friday afternoon (28 March).

The nursery at Chanctonfold (off Horsham Road) has a new pre-school for 3 to 5 year olds and expanded ‘out of school club' for primary school children.

Nick was given a tour of the nursery by Managing Director Felicity Groves.  He was shown the new playrooms, ‘rest' room and washing facilities.  He also visited the new kitchen where staff use freshly prepared and locally sourced food.

The day nursery opened in October 2006 and looks after children from 0 to 5 years.  In September 2007, the ‘Foxes Den' out of school club was opened.  The nursery also operates a Saturday Morning Creche and Holiday Club.

The day nursery looks after 120 children each week and has a waiting list that continues to grow.  It opens from 7.30am to 6.00pm on weekdays.  Facilities include an outside play area and meadow in which children can learn about plants and wildlife.

Felicity Groves said: "Following the opening event, I feel that we have been endorsed as a valued local business and I am very grateful to Nick for coming along."

"I believe that we make an important contribution to the diversity of educational provision within the local economy.  I am able to ensure that families in the local area have their childcare needs met and do this in a way that enriches their children's lives.

"The nursery supports healthy eating habits and provides the basic skills for children as part of their transition to school.  We actively encourage their 'curiosity' to learn."

Nick Herbert commented: "It was a huge pleasure to open the new nursery facilities.

"The success of Little Foxes in such a short space of time, less than two years, is a tribute to Felicity and her team."

Mr Herbert added: "It also shows the real demand for nursery provision that wasn't being met.  Good local childcare facilities are so important to give women real choices about going to work."
