Nick Herbert discusses local rural issues with the CLA

The need to provide affordable homes and the challenges of policing in rural areas were topics on the agenda when Arundel & South Downs MP Nick Herbert met the South East branch of the Country, Land and Business Association (CLA) last month (25 March).

The meeting took place in Arundel and members at the meeting included Rupert Ashby, Regional Director of the CLA, Jonathan Lucas, acting Chairman of the CLA and Leo Hickish, vice Chairman of the CLA.

Issues discussed included how more affordable homes could be delivered in rural areas and the difficulties in dealing with travellers unlawfully occupying private land.

Nick Herbert also talked about his plans for Police and Crime Commissioners, which he said would help to ensure that the voice of rural communities was heard in policing decisions.

Nick Herbert commented: "I was delighted to be invited to speak at the CLA's meeting and to listen to their concerns.

"As an MP for a rural constituency, I play the closest attention to these issues.  I am particularly concerned about problems with travellers and I intend to take this matter up."
