Steyning

Steyning is 4 miles from the Sussex coast and is located at the north end of the river Adur gap in the South Downs.　 It has a population of over 5,500 people.

Steyning has a strong Anglo Saxon heritage with King Alfred the Great’s father, Ethelwulf of Wessex, originally being buried in St Andrew’s church, which is supposed to have been built by St Cuthman.

In the 19th century Steyning was a rotten borough returning two MPs to Westminster until it was disenfranchised by the Reform Act of 1832.

Today Steyning has a large array of facilities, including its own school, Steyning Grammar.
