Rock Common
Nick actively supported the campaign against a new landfill site at Rock Common near Washington.
The proposal to dump 5.5 million tonnes of rubbish at the site over the next 25 years would have threatened a major aquifer, damaged the countryside and reduced the quality of life for residents in local villages.
Nick went to County Hall to give evidence to the Planning Committee who were considering the application from Veolia and urged them to reject it. After hearing evidence from Nick, local councillors, residents and the Environment Agency, the Committee unanimously rejected the application.
Nick has paid tribute to the work of the Chanctonbury Landfill Action Group (CLAG) and said the decision to turn down the application would be a source of "enormous relief" to the local community.
"I pledge to work hard for everyone in the constituency, to stand up for local people, and to be a strong voice at Westminster for your concerns"
