Laybrook
After a long campaign backed by Nick, Cory Environmental decided not to proceed with its plans for a new landfill site at Laybrook Brickworks near Thakeham.
The proposal to dump 4.1 million tonnes of rubbish at Laybrook over the next 21 years attracted a wave of protests from the local community.
In response to the firm's planning application, Nick submitted a formal objection to the County Council's consultation and was at County Hall in February to deliver a 5000-strong petition collected by Thakeham Village Action.
Nick also met with the Chief Executive of Cory in December to convey his opposition to the proposals and to relay the concerns of his constituents.
Nick has argued consistently against the use of landfill, which not only affects the quality of life for residents living nearby, but is also the most environmentally damaging way to dispose of waste. Nick believes that we should reduce the amount of waste that we produce, increase recycling and convert more of our waste into energy.
Nick also believes that the roads around Laybrook are unsuitable for the 200 lorry movements a day that a landfill site would have generated.
"I pledge to work hard for everyone in the constituency, to stand up for local people, and to be a strong voice at Westminster for your concerns"
