Education

Nick regularly visits schools in his constituency to listen to the views and concerns of headteachers, staff, governors, parents and children.

Nick has backed the campaigns of parents who have not been able to get their children into the local village school.  Last year, he brokered an agreement with the County Council to provide a temporary classroom at Hassocks Infants School to cope with the extra demand for places.

Nick has also provided strong support to pre school nurseries, like those in Arundel that have been threatened with closure.

Nationally, Nick wants to see higher standards in our education system and is concerned about the erosion of our A Levels and GCSEs.  Whilst Nick believes that there are many really good schools in his constituency, he is worried about the situation across the country where half of pupils leave school without five good GCSEs including maths and English.

Nick has backed plans for a radical overhaul of the education system, based on increased choice and accountability, higher standards and enhanced prestige for the teaching profession.
