Update from Nick Herbert
At a public meeting in Arundel on Friday 18 January Nick Herbert supported local residents' concerns about the use of 15 Howard Road, Arundel as accommodation run by Clearsprings Ltd for prisoners released on tags or suspects remanded on bail.
UPDATE FROM NICK HERBERT - MONDAY 21 JANUARY
The proposed bail hostel in Arundel will not be opened following strong objections from the local community.
ClearSprings has now told me that they will be terminating the lease on the property and that no prisoners or suspects on bail will be moved in.
In an e-mail to me today, Juliette Hewitt, National Operations Manager of ClearSprings Management Ltd, says:
"Following our phone conversations of today I am writing to advise that, with due concern for the welfare of our service users, ClearSprings are terminating the lease on the property at 15 Howard Road, Arundel.
"Furthermore we shall not be accommodating any Service Users in this property."

UPDATE FROM NICK HERBERT - SATURDAY 19 JANUARY
I have spoken to the South East Regional Manager of Clearsprings who has confirmed that the company recognises that Arundel is not a suitable place for this type of accommodation and intends to find alternative premises.
Their current plan is still to move residents into 15 Howard Road until they find alternative accommodation. I impressed on the Regional Manager the very strong feeling of the local community that no residents should be moved in to the house at all. He will be discussing this with the Clearsprings national management. The Ministry of Justice will also have to be consulted on Monday.
I will give a further update on Monday when I know more.
In the meantime, local residents can contact the following to express their views:
